Teenagers and young adults often have a turbulent time learning to manage life’s challenges, while dealing with adolescent mood swings. Most navigate this period of their lives without any lasting effects, but in some cases youngsters can benefit from a bit of help.
Therapy isn’t just reserved for extreme cases of mental distress. Meeting with a therapist to talk about a variety of troubles from relationship issues to coping with a disability or pressure at school can help any young person, and prevent minor problems from becoming major.
I use the integrative model for counselling teenagers and young people, which means I employ a person-centred approach but can bring in more psychodynamic techniques if/when necessary as therapy progresses.
If you’re a parent or guardian concerned about a teen’s mental well-being, or a young person who feels the need to unburden yourself about the stresses in your life, I’d be happy to listen and help guide you towards solutions.
Therapy and counselling is essential for adolescents and youths who are exhibiting behaviours like self-harming, eating disorders, substance abuse or violent aggression.
I can support and guide young people from all strata of society as they find healthy patterns, strategies and coping skills to help them manage modern life as they grow into maturity, often reducing the risk of serious issues like those mentioned above.
Through therapy I have been able to help teenagers and young people with problems like:
When I counsel young people my aim is to serve as a trusted adult to whom they can “open up” and share the problems in their life, confidentially and safely.
Taking professional care of a teenager’s mental health shows them the importance of mental health and the positive impact therapy can have on their life in general as they become adults.
Counselling for young people can be short or long term, depending on the issues raised, and can be offered face-to-face in my practice rooms in Salisbury, Wiltshire, or online via Zoom or Skype.
Sessions can vary in length, and appointments can be scheduled as frequently as you are comfortable with. I approach talk therapy with an empathetic approach and strive to make my clients feel safe and relaxed at all times, without judging or exerting any pressure.
It’s important to remember – as a young person or an adult – that whatever you’re struggling with, life can be better.
